사단법인 별의친구들은 2002년에 설립된 공익법인으로 느린 학습자를 포함한 다양한 경도의 어려움을 가진 청년들과 청소년들이 고유의 아름다운 빛을 회복하고 성장할 수 있는 대안 학교 '성장학교별', 신경 다양성 기반의 진로 모색, 고용과 훈련을 위한 카페, 청년쿠키, 도서 출판, 전시 및 공연, 그리고 전문인 교육 연수 등의 목적 사업을 운영하는 공익법인입니다.

우리는 각자의 다름을 존중하고, 누구나 자기 삶의 주인이 될 수 있도록 돕는 포용적이고 성장 중심적인 배움의 공간을 만들어갑니다. 이를 통해 정신건강에 어려움을 겪는 청소년과 청년들이 자기결정권을 키우고, 진로를 탐색하며 자립적인 삶을 준비할 수 있도록 다양한 교육과 지원을 제공합니다. 또한 청년들이 지속 가능한 소득을 창출하고, 더 넓은 세상으로 나아갈 수 있도록 혁신적인 진로 경로와 경제적 기회를 설계합니다. 우리는 협력과 상호 돌봄을 바탕으로 성장하는 공동체이며, 서로를 지지하며 함께 실천하는 과정 속에서 지속 가능한 미래를 만들어갑니다.
주요 활동 방향 (Strategic Priorities)
1. 정신적 어려움을 겪는 미래세대를 위한 맞춤형 교육 제공
청소년과 청년들이 자기결정권을 실현하고, 경제활동에 참여하며, 사회의 일원으로 성장할 수 있도록 돕는 교육 서비스를 제공합니다. 금융 이해, 멘토링, 진로 훈련을 통합한 모델을 통해 장기적인 삶의 성공을 지원합니다.
1) 성장학교별: 프레네 교육철학을 바탕으로, 비판적 사고·창의성·협업 역량을 기르는 참여형 학습 환경을 제공합니다.
2) 스타칼리지: 정체성 탐색, 감정 조절, 금융역량, 진로 탐색, IT 교육 등을 통해 삶과 일을 함께 준비하는 초기 성인기 맞춤형 프로그램입니다.
3) 청년행복학교별: 산업별 직무교육, 자격증 과정, 현장훈련(OJT), 이력서·면접 준비, 직장 내 소통, 스트레스 관리, 멘토링 등 종합적인 직업 훈련 프로그램을 제공합니다.
2. 내부 고용을 지원하는 자체 사업장 운영
정신건강의 어려움으로 일자리 진입에 어려움을 겪는 청년들에게 지역경제 참여와 창업 실험의 기회를 제공합니다. 사업 수익은 전액 재투자되어, 지속 가능한 고용과 성장을 뒷받침합니다.
1) 카페별: 청년들이 바리스타로 근무하며 고객 응대·직무역량·서비스 스킬을 쌓고, 음료 및 쿠키 판매를 통한 수익 창출에 참여합니다.
2) 청년쿠키: 제과 생산에 직접 참여하며 기술과 운영 경험을 쌓을 수 있는 자체 베이커리 사업장입니다. 제품은 카페와 연계하여 판매되며, 청년들의 직무 역량과 실무 경험을 함께 키워갑니다.
3) 도서출판 별의친구들: 청소년과 청년들이 에세이·소설·시 등을 직접 기획·출판하고, 창의적 창업과 금융 이해를 함께 키워가는 출판 플랫폼입니다.
3. 정신적 어려움을 겪는 미래세대를 위한 정책 옹호 활동
정신건강의 어려움을 겪는 청소년과 청년의 자립과 사회적 포용을 촉진하기 위한 정책을 연구·제안하고, 이를 위한 사회적 논의와 인식 확산에 힘씁니다.
1) 연구회 운영: 교육적 실천을 기반으로, 정신건강전문교육 네트워크를 운영합니다.
2) 정기 세미나: 경계선지능 및 정신건강을 주제로 한 연구 및 담론을 촉진합니다.
3) 국회포럼 개최: 정신적 어려움을 겪는 청년들의 자립과 포용을 위한 국회 포럼을 개최하여, 정책 의제를 제안하고 사회적 공감대를 형성합니다.
4. 다자간 협력 및 지역사회 연계
대학, 공공기관, 비영리단체와 협력하여 소외된 청소년과 청년들을 위한 지속 가능한 고용 생태계를 조성합니다. 학생 인턴십, 정부지원사업, 민간 펀딩 등을 연계해 진로 교육, 취업 지원, 멘토링을 운영하며, 우리의 프로그램이 유연하고 지속 가능한 방식으로 사회적 영향력을 발휘할 수 있도록 설계합니다.
Friends of Star is a public-interest incorporated association established in 2002. We support youth and adolescents with mild developmental and learning challenges—including slow learners—to rediscover their unique brilliance and grow into their fullest potential. Our core initiatives include "Youth Alternative School", an alternative learning community; career exploration and employment training based on neurodiversity; and various social enterprises such as a Café Star, Youth Cookie, a publishing house, exhibitions and performances, as well as professional training programs for educators and specialists.

Strategic Priorities
1. Providing Specialized Education for Youth with Mental Health Challenges
We offer educational services to empower youth with mental health challenges to exercise self-determination, participate in economic activities, and contribute to society. Our model integrates financial literacy, mentorship, and career training to prepare youth for long-term success.
1) Youth Alternative School: A supportive and interactive learning environment based on the Freinet philosophy, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.
2) College for Emerging Adults: A program focused on identity development, emotional regulation, financial capability, career exploration, and IT training, preparing youth for both life and work.
3) Star Career Training Hub: Comprehensive vocational training including industry-specific job education, certifications, OJT, resume writing, interview prep, workplace communication, stress management, and mentorship.
2. Operating Businesses to Support Employment
We operate businesses that provide youth with mental health challenges—facing employment barriers—with opportunities to participate in the local economy and explore entrepreneurship. These businesses reinvest revenue into expansion, fostering sustainable employment and growth.
1) Café Star: A space for young adults with mental health challenges to gain employment as baristas, developing job readiness and customer service skills while generating revenue through beverage and cookie sales.
2) Youth Cookie: A bakery initiative offering hands-on pastry-making experience, with products sold through the café, helping youth develop skills in baking and business operations.
3) Publishing House: A platform for young writers to publish and monetize their essays, novels, and poetry, encouraging creative entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
3. Policy Advocacy for Youth with Mental Health Challenges
We engage in research initiatives and public discourse to advocate for policies that support the independence and inclusion of youth with mental health challenges.
1) Research Groups: Conducting educational initiatives and running the "Winnicott Mental Health Experts Network" for mental health professionals.
2) Regular Seminars: Promoting research and discussions on borderline intelligence and mental health.
3) Legislative Forums: Hosting discussions at the National Assembly to advocate for policies supporting the inclusion and independence of youth with mental health challenges.
4. Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration & Community Engagement
We collaborate with universities, public agencies, and nonprofits to create a sustainable employment ecosystem for underserved youth. Through student internships, government-supported initiatives, and nonprofit funding, we provide career training, employment support, and mentorship, ensuring our programs are adaptive, impactful, and sustainable in the long term.
